Overall, I'm having a wonderful time with the game. It is clear that a lot of talented people made this game. I think it is also important that I recommend to everyone to only play this game alone at night with the lights off or you are missing out on half of the fun. There is no better way to soak in the atmosphere and have multiple near-heart attacks.

DOOM 3 is best classified as an experience that you simply must play to believe. It'd be an understatement to simply call this a game, because it's so much more.

I've only played a bit, but I don't really have any complaints about the game so far. The graphics, gameplay and sound are all top notch. From the second you start playing you feel like you're on Mars fighting an endless horde of demon-spawn, and it feels good. This isn't just a game, it's an experience -- one you would be stupid to miss out on.

I wouldn't go all out and say that you should pay thousands of dollars on a PC to play with everything maxed out because it looks really good good on older computers. Personally I ran this game perfectly with a Pentium 4 2.4GHz with an ATI 9800 Pro.
This is a definite must have game.

If you go in expecting the easy "jump out at you" scares of less cerebral horror movies, and a fun romp as a genuine action hero-type (silent but deadly, like your grandpappy's farts), plus want to see the future of game-tech, run out to pick up DOOM 3. id has earned their $55. It may not win a permanent place on your top ten, but it will thrill and entertain well into the holidays when that radioactive decay game is supposed to get a sequel or something.
